John rubbed the spot on the back of his head that he hit on the desk. "Alright..." he said, trying to think about what their next step should be. "I don't know the first thing about babies," he admitted, pinching the bridge of his nose. "When are they?" His need for a full time job was suddenly more important now. The money he saved up during his time in the marines was certainly going to be helpful, but his insurance only lasted so much longer, and he needed something stable so that they wouldn't have to worry too much about how much the baby would cost them. The last thing he wanted was for Kat to drop out of college.
"I want to be there for all of them." Unable to sit still any longer, John got to his feet and started pacing. He was going to have to tell his mother and his brothers... the idea made him a little nervous. "Does anybody else know?"

“Neither do I really, except what I've picked up from taking care of my sister’s son.” Kat replied, which watching Liam wasn't a very frequent occurrence. Even though she loved her nephew to death the kid really was a nightmare sometimes. Every time he would come over she would keep him in the living room, give him the television remote and his games and then she would usually paint until he had to eat or sleep.
Katerina moved back to sitting on the sofa, her butt starting to get numb from her position on the arm of the chair. “The first appointment is on Friday around noon, it’s just the initial checkup, taking the hospital pregnancy test, getting my weight and maybe an ultra sound I’m not sure what else.” She told him, she really wasn't sure what they did on the first appointment she never really paid attention to Lydia when she talked about those. “I won’t tell you that you can’t come with me, I really don’t see a reason not to let you.” Kat told him.
“No, no one knows, well except Annie my dog.” She said with a small smile. John hadn't really liked her Australian Shepherd when he was over that night.

"Right, the dog... isn't there a rule about keeping those things away from babies?" He was only joking... somewhat. He wasn't all that crazy about her dog. Watching her move back to the couch, his eyes wandered to her stomach. It was the first time ever that those blue eyes of his had completely bypassed a woman's boobs. "How are you feeling?" His question was a genuine one, with a hint of concern. It wasn't a tone that he took often with people.
"I'll be there for the appointment then. We'll go to lunch or dinner or something." He rubbed the back of his head again. "I guess we'll talk about what we're going to do... living arrangements for the baby and everything." He didn't quite want to say the word "custody" in case it would give her the wrong impression. They were in it together, whether they we together or not.

“I’m feeling alright right now, you know besides being tired and scared.” Kat replied honestly. There wasn't any use denying the fact that she was scared shitless. Her sister had talked about how wonderful her pregnancy was but every time she saw a pregnant woman they looked so uncomfortable. And their stomachs…granted some women could pull off the baby belly but some just looked overweight. Sighing she relaxed more into the couch. If she laid there much longer without talking she was sure to just fall asleep.
“I have a question, and I’d like you to answer honestly.” Katerina said, closing her eyes for a moment before opening them and settling her brown gaze on John’s face. “I know this situation has pulled us together as a future mother and father of a child… but in the long run where do you see the two of us?” It was an off the wall question, one that had popped into her head as she had been talking to him, but it was kind of important. Sure their opinions could change over time, but their opinions right now mattered as well.

John stopped his pacing and looked over at her, brows knitting together in a look that was borderline worried. He was just as scared, oddly enough... he was never scared. He could count on one hand the times that he had been scared like he was then...
She looked tired and, watching her lay down, he grabbed the blanket that was draped over the back of the armchair. "Where do I see us?" he asked, thinking about this for a minute as he laid the blanket over her. "I don't know." He was being honest, though he didn't want to upset her. John had never once considered settling down... it just wasn't him. He didn't have plans for that night let alone nine months down the road... or nine years. He was almost scared of thinking about where things were going between them, but he couldn't just leave her with a half-assed answer. "But we'll figure that out." He watched her for a moment, figuring she might fall asleep. "Knowing us though, we'll wind up in the nut house. I hear having kids really drives people insane."

Kat nodded her head sleepily. It was amazing how comfortable a couch could be when you were tired. She hadn't gotten a lot of sleep over the last few days. She had spent the nights tossing and turning, going in and out of sleep worrying about the future, how she would take care of a child, possibly even having to drop out of college. She might not need too now, if John was serious about sticking around and being a father to their child, she might have a chance to finish up her last year and graduate.
“That’s definitely true; I can already see the age lines starting to form in my sister’s face from her son.” Katerina said with a tired laugh. She was joking of course. Her sister was just as beautiful as ever but she knew it was just a matter of time before they really did start showing and the grey hair popping out among her long brown hair. She finally noticed that he seemed to have had the intentions of going somewhere and started to get up from the couch. “I’m sorry; you look like you had plans. I don’t want to interrupt them any more than I already have.”

John rolled his eyes and gently, but firmly took hold of her shoulder to keep her from getting up. "Relax. I guarantee, I'll be back before you even wake up," he said with a smile. "I'll bring something back for you to eat." For a moment, his brows came together as he wondered if there was anything pregnant women couldn't eat. He knew that they weren't supposed to drink and... well, that was about it.
"You haven't interrupted anything, just me looking for a job." Getting up, John slipped on his shoes. "Just make yourself at home."

-----------TIME SKIP-------------
It had been a couple hours that she had been asleep, not having slept much in the last few days the couch was extremely comfortable to sleep on. But her sleeping self forgot she wasn't at home in her bed, so when she rolled over she fell off the couch onto the hardwood floor of the living room. Not the greatest way to be woken up from a nap. Kat groaned and sat up slowly, rubbing the back of her head which had hit the floor a little hard. “Ugh, stupid couch.” She grumbled.
Katerina got up from the floor and walked into the Rhodes’s kitchen and after a little searching found the cabinet that housed their cups and grabbed one. Opening the fridge she saw booze, more booze and milk. Shaking her head she opted for water instead.

John had managed to get a number of applications filled out, though he wasn't quite convinced that any of the jobs were for him. Most involved retail and, at the age of twenty-eight, he didn't want some dead-end job. He supposed he would find something to suit him... though nothing quite as suitable as the marines had been. Trying not to be bitter, John headed up the elevator and to the apartment, a few bags in his hands and a box of pizza.
Having been longer than expected, he wasn't all that surprised when he saw that Kat was missing from the couch. Heading into the kitchen, a smile crossed his face when he saw her. "Miss me?" he asked, setting down the bags and the pizza on the counter. "I got you something." Wiggling his brows, he pulled out a teddy bear. "Well... okay, it's for the baby, but you can borrow it until he's born." He.... John had pretty much already decided that it was a boy. Grabbing some plates for the pizza, he looked over at her, eyes flicking up and down her figure. "I got something to drink to. How did you sleep?"

Kat jumped a little at the sound of the door opening in the living room having been lost in thought. When John made his way into the kitchen she gave him a small smile in return. When he pulled out the teddy bear though, Katerina's smile got wider. It was a cute gesture that he was already thinking ahead to when the baby was actually ‘here’.
“I slept alright, the couch is more comfortable than most.” She replied as she took the stuffed bear from him. It really was a cute toy; some of them could be pretty ugly. “So what makes you so sure the baby is going to be a boy? What if it’s a girl instead?” She asked him. Honestly either way Kat would be happy, she just thought it was funny that John already was calling it a he.

Opening up the pizza, John set some on a plate and handed it to her. "Are you kidding me? Can you see me with a daughter?" He wanted to laugh. "No, I can feel it. We're going to have a son, just as strong and devilishly handsome as his father." Winking at her, he grabbed himself two slices of pizza.
"I was thinking about it and I think we should have dinner at my mother's this weekend so we can tell her and my brothers about the baby." Looking back at her, he wondered how she would feel about this. "I figured you would want to decide when to tell your family." Grabbing himself a beer from the fridge, he took his food to the table.

Kat took the plate from him and her glass of water from the counter. “Well then I’m not having the same feelings as you, besides boys are a pain. You gotta deal with them peeing in your face when you’re trying to change them… not to mention teaching them how to pee correctly when they’re old enough to be potty trained. No girls are easier.” She said. She had dealt with Liam when he was a baby and in her mind she would much prefer a daughter.
She paled a little at the thought of going to his mother’s house, for dinner, just to tell her that she was going to be a grandmother. Kat had never been great with the whole ‘meet the parents thing’ and even though she’d met his mother briefly while they dated in high school it still scared her to death. With a grimace she sat down opposite him at the table and asked “Do we have to? I mean, couldn't we wait just a little longer?” She would do it of course, if it would really mean something to him to do it, but damn she hated these kinds of things.

Sitting down, John merely looked at her and raised his brows. "Sure, we could wait until he graduates and is heading off to college," he said, taking a bite of pizza and then pointing it at her. "You know we should just get it done and over with. Besides, what are you worried about?" Taking a drink of his beer, he could already imagine how the night would go.
"She'll oggle over you and get all excited. You'll be like her new best friend, but me... she'll tell me I'm an idiot who should have wrapped it or that I shouldn't have taken advantage of such a sweet, innocent girl." He could already picture the reactions of all his immediate family. "Besides, it will be perfect timing. Right after your appointment... we can show off the ultrasound pictures and whatnot. Everybody is going to be happy for you. It's me who's going to be a jackass." Really it was only Andrew that he wasn't looking forward to telling. Then again, maybe Andrew would see it as John finally growing up... but he very seriously doubted it.

Katerina groaned inwardly as she took a bite of her pizza. She knew it wasn't wise to let this go too long before telling people but just ugh she hated the idea of what people would think. They weren't married, and didn't have plans to do so. Technically their child would be a bastard, though she hated using the term. Illegitimate was a better word for it.
Swallowing her food she sighed “Obviously you don’t remember the last time I met your mother, what like eleven years ago? I was terrible. I’m pretty sure I made an impression that was less than stellar. I get all nervous and say ALL the wrong things.” Kat was already getting worked up over it and the whole thing was still like five days away from now.
The more she thought about telling his family, the more she grew nervous about telling her own family. “Ugh, and then we’ll have to tell my family. My sisters practically hate your guts.” She sighed again taking another bite of pizza. Boy did life have to be stressful.

He couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Are you kidding me? My mother loved you. I think her exact words were 'she's so much nicer than most of the trash you bring home, John. Don't screw it up.'" A smile stretched across his face when she mentioned her own sisters and how they hated him. He got that... a lot. "It's only because they're jealous, babe... jealous that they can't have me for themselves." He wiggled his brows, drinking more of his beer.
"But seriously, don't worry about it. It's not like anyone else has a say in the matter." It was rare that John ever had a problem breaking news to someone. He usually just came right out and said it, no matter how good or bad. Although, he had also been known for not telling people news at all and letting people find out on their own. He'd gotten into a lot of trouble for such things in the past... mostly with old girlfriends and his mother.
"How much longer do you have to go with school, until you get your degree?" he asked, wondering how they were going to work that out. He didn't want her to stop going. If his calculations were correct though, if everything went well, the baby would be born during the early summer. It would be just in time for her summer vacation and would give her time to recuperate if she still had classes to take.
