VAMPIRES
becoming a vampire
Becoming a vampire is an extremely painful process. A mere bite will not change someone. In order to become a vampire, a human must be taken to the brink of death before being forced to drink the blood of a vampire. The process of changing after the exchange of blood can take days as the body slowly and agonizingly dies and changes. In order to complete the transition, a newly turned vampire must feed on human blood. If he or she does not feed, they will meet the true death, slowly and painfully.
In terms of living(or non-living) habits, it's not uncommon for vampires to "live" together, however, it's rare for vampires to live in large groups. You can't really blame them. Seeing the same faces for all of eternity? It probably gets pretty boring. When vampires do live in large groups, there is usually some reason behind it, and a sinister one at that. Some vampires have been known to build armies to wipe out mankind. So far these armies have failed, and thankfully so. Another case of vampires living in large groups was long ago, when the existence of vampires was threatened by an enemy long forgotten. Vampires came together in order to survive.

strengths
SPEED. Vampires have the ability to move at a highly accelerated speed. When this ability is in use, a vampire is little more than a blur of motion.
STRENGTH. Much stronger than humans, a vampire's strength grows as they age. Even those who are in transition are stronger than they once were. A vampire's strength is superior even to a werewolf, in human form.
COMPULSION. The ability to control another's thoughts, memories and emotions is known as compulsion. With this ability, vampires can erase memories and even create them. The only vampire who has the ability to compel other vampires is the first vampire. The only way for a human to resist compulsion would be for them to be wearing something made of pure silver. In order for a vampire to compel someone, eye contact must be made.
ACCELERATED HEALING. Vampires have the ability to heal rapidly and can take a great deal of damage before it actually slows them down.
HEIGHTENED SENSES AND EMOTIONS. Every sense and every feeling that a person felt when they were human is greatly magnified as a vampire. Vampires can smell anything, especially blood, from a decent enough distance, they can hear whispered conversations from a distance and they can see even in a pitch black room.
IMMORTALITY. From the moment that they are turned, a vampire will cease to age. Unless they are killed, they will not die. Even if a vampire fails to feed, they will simply weaken until they are practically mummified, and unable to move.
DAYWALKING. After many years, some vampires have discovered the secret to daywalking. The process is a fairly simple one which involves a witch enchanting an item(most commonly jewelry) for a vampire. This item must be kept on the vampire in order for them to walk in the sunlight and will only work for the vampire that it was created for. Obtaining the ability to daywalk is easier said than done, especially seeing as the bond between vampires and witches isn't exactly a strong one. Because of the rarity of daywalking, we ask that members limit their daywalkers.

weaknesses
SUNLIGHT AND FIRE. The sun is the biggest enemy to a vampire who is unable to daywalk. Exposure to sunlight causes a great deal of pain and will burn a vampire's skin. After a few moments, they will combust and, if they are not put out, they will face the true death. A similar fate awaits those vampires who are caught on fire by other means.
SILVER. Silver is another great weakness to vampires and will burn them with a simple touch. While also causing a great deal of pain, silver will also weaken a vampire and slow the healing process. Liquefied silver has a drug-like affect on vampires and can be used to sedate them and render them unconscious. As stated before, if a person is wearing pure silver, it will prevent a vampire from compelling them.
DECAPITATION OR REMOVAL OF THE HEART. Decapitating a vampire or removing his or her heart will result in permanent death.
INVITATIONS. Vampires can only access a home if they are invited in by someone who lives there. Once they have been invited in, there is no uninviting them, unless ownership of the house is transferred to another, living human being. Once the owner of the residence dies, a vampire can enter freely. Also, a vampire can freely enter the residence of another vampire.
WEREWOLF VENOM. Werewolf venom is extremely toxic to vampires. Asingle bite will kill a vampire, very slowly and painfully. Vampires who have been bitten will turn rabid and have been known to hallucinate. There is no known cure for werewolf venom, though there is ongoing research regarding such a thing.
WOODEN STAKES. If you're going to kill a vampire by stabbing it in the heart, you can't just use any material to do so. Sure, stabbing a vampire in the heart with anything will slow them down for a moment, but only wooden material can actually kill them via this method. Why is that? It's uncertain as to why, but it's likely because vampires and wooden stakes share one thing in common: they were once alive, but now they're dead. Some say that the wood sucks the life out of vampires.

WEREWOLVES
becoming a werewolf
Though a werewolf can shift whenever they so desire, they are only able to change someone during the full moon. In order to become a werewolf, a human must be bitten under the full moon, allowing the werewolf to release his or her venom into their system. It is also possible to inject a human with werewolf venom, during a full moon, via a needle to turn them. This is rare though because... well, who would do that, other than a mad scientist? Though it is rare, werewolves are sometimes born. In order for this to happen though, at least one of their parents must have been a werewolf at the time of conception. When this does happen, the ability to shift does not present itself until puberty (as if going through puberty isn't bad enough). The actual shifting process is an extremely painful one. When in animal form, a werewolf resembles actual wolves, but slightly larger.
strengths
SPEED. Werewolves are exceptionally fast, faster than humans. Unfortunately, they are no where near as fast as vampires.
STRENGTH. Werewolves are also much stronger than humans. They are almost as strong as vampires, but not quite.
SHIFTING. As stated before, werewolves have the ability to shift whenever they choose.
ACCELERATED HEALING. The body of a werewolf heals remarkably faster than that of a human's, though not as fast as a vampire's. A broken bone may take a day or so to heal completely, as opposed to weeks.
HEIGHTENED SENSES AND EMOTIONS. Werewolves rely heavily on their heightened senses. They can sniff out just about anything and hear much more than a human. They feel, just as humans do, though their emotions are stronger. This can also be a weakness, seeing as werewolves are known to shift and attack out of anger.
PACKS. Many werewolves are born into, or choose to live in a pack, providing them with a strong community. A pack of werewolves could probably take down just about anyone or anything.

Liquefied silver has a drug-like affect on werewolves and can be used to sedate them and render them unconscious. Silver bullets are a common method used for killing werewolves.
WOLFSBANE. Much like silver, wolfsbane can be used to weaken a werewolf or drug them. It will also burn them when touched to their skin and slow down their accelerated healing.
FULL MOONS. During the full moon, a werewolf has no choice but to shift and is a slave to his or her instincts. They are extremely dangerous at this time, unable to control their actions, and will likely not remember any of it the next day.
VAMPIRES. If a vampire attempts to turn a werewolf, the werewolf will become a rabid creature. They will not survive the transition period, upon waking as a vampire and will die whether they feed on blood or not.

SHIFTERS
becoming a shapeshifter
The only way to become a shapeshifter is to be born as one. In order for this to happen, one or both of a child's parents must be a shapeshifter. If both parents are shifters, then their children will almost definitely become shifters. Though it's rare, some shifters have been known to produce children without the ability. These children can sometimes still carry the gene and one day have a shifter child, though this is extremely rare as well. If a child has one parent who is a shifter, there is a fifty-fifty chance that they will have the ability as well.
strengths
SHIFTING. Shapeshifters are able to shift whenever they desire, into whatever animal they may choose. They are not able to shift into other humans, however. Also, unlike werewoves, the full moon does not effect them.
HEIGHTENED SENSES. Though not quite as strong as werewolves and vampires, shapeshifters often have heightened senses.

weaknesses
HUMANITY. Shifters are still pretty much human, with the exception of their special abilities, and have the same weaknesses as any other human being.
WEREWOLVES AND VAMPIRES. It is much more difficult for a shapshifter to be turned into a werewolf or vampire. The process is very rarely a successful one in both cases. When turning into a werewolf, a shifter's body can no longer comprehend the ability to shift into other animals. The internal battle that transpires will either result in the death of the person or the destruction of the ability to shapeshift into other animals. Even if a shapeshifter survives this process, some have been known to go insane. A similar process transpires when a shapeshifter is turned into a vampire. Many do not survive the transition, whether they feed on blood or not. If they are successfully turned, then they lose the ability to shift completely. Some shapeshifters who have been turned into vampires are known to turn rabid.

WITCHES
becoming a witch or warlock
In order to become a witch(female) or warlock(male), someone must be born with the ability. Their magic and energy used to cast spells comes from the earth itself as well as the spirit world. Many choose the path of light magic, using their abilities for the good of others. Of course, there's two sides to every coin, so plenty of witches and warlocks practice dark magic. Humans can learn certain abilities from witches, such as potion making, but these practitioners are no where near as strong and lack the ability to cast spells.
STRENGTHS
MAGIC. The magic of a powerful witch can send any supernatural or human being to his or her knees.
SPIRIT COMMUNICATION. Witches can often communicate with spirit who have crossed over. These spirits can aid them in their magic or provide them with guidance.
NATURE. When a witch or warlock requires more energy to cast a spell, he or she can sometimes pull energy from their surroundings. this isn't always enough though. For those who practice dark magic, blood sacrifices provide a great deal of energy.
COVENS. Though most witches choose to practice their magic alone or with close family members who have also inherited the gift, some may choose to join a coven. Being with a group of witches allows witches to enhance their abilities and draw strength and power from one another. In order for members of a coven to draw strength from one another, they must be within close proximity of each other. Another, somewhat less effective way of drawing strength from coven members would be to carry something that belongs to another member or other members. It's common for coven witches to wear lockets or jewelry which contains the hair of each of their coven members. The more witches/warlocks in a coven, the more powerful they may be.
FAMILY. For a witch, bloodlines are everything. Whereas coven members need to be close or have to carry something of their fellow coven members in order to gain strength from them, those who are related by blood do not require this. Blood related practitioners are always connected, no matter how near or far. The blood bond between siblings is often strongest, but a bond between twins (or triplets, etc.) blows all blood bonds out of the water. Siblings will often know when their brother or sister is in danger or when they are feeling pain. The stronger the bond between siblings, the stronger the connection. Family bonds have been known to weaken as relatives grow apart on an emotional level and can even be severed completely. Severed bonds can be repaired, but that is dependent on the relatives' willingness to welcome the other back into their lives.

weaknesses
ENERGY. Spell casting takes energy and the stronger the spell, the more energy that is needed to sustain it. Many witches have been known to die from trying to case spells that are much too advanced for them.
VAMPIRES AND WEREWOLVES. Once a witch or warlock is changed into either a vampire or werewolf, they lose their witchy abilities.
