[attr="class","john"] [attr="class","jpostie"] [attr="class","jpostietext"]By the time the music stopped playing, John's ears were muffled and he could still feel the lingering reverberations of the music wracking his body. Stepping out into the cool night air, he was almost reluctant to leave, but happy at the same time. If he was tired and sore then Kat must have been in agony.
He had to admit, he had been somewhat apprehensive about taking his pregnant girlfriend to a Foo Fighters concert, especially considering they had floor tickets. He thought for sure that she might get pushed around or knocked out of the way, and she surely would have had they been center stage, but she was perfectly fine off to the side. Besides, on the off chance that they were bumped into, John was like a brick wall behind her, not moving even a fraction of an inch.
With the rain starting up, he was eager to get home before the downpour started and not just for his own sake. Kat already had to be tired and sore, he didn't want to add wet to that equation. With people pouring out of the exits though, they were bound to have to wait at least a few minutes to even get out of the parking lot. "Watch your step," he said to Kat, taking her hand as he stepped down off of the curb and onto the black top, which was already glistening with moisture as they headed to the car.
Even John, a frequent party goer, had to admit that he couldn't wait to crawl into bed. They hadn't been in their apartment very long, but Kat had already put her mark on it, really making it feel like a home. It would feel even more so once the nursery was done. With only a month or so left, John knew that his time was running out, but it was hard to finish a nursery when you didn't even know what you were having. Though he constantly insisted that it would be a boy, all of the women in his life seemed to be ganging up on him over the matter. His mother and Liz had even bought all girl's things for Kat's baby shower, even though they had requested neutral items since the baby's gender was going to be a surprise.
For now, the nursery was just an unfinished mess with a bunch of baby things laying around. They were up to their ears in diapers and other odds and ends. When John had suggested giving away the dog to make room for the baby... well, Kat didn't seem to like that idea very much. With every day that passed, she was getting closer and closer to her due date. The tension was running high and there were days that John wanted to hide under the bed or in the closet just to escape the hormones. Kat's confession, hadn't made any of it any easier.
Since the day that she let slip that she loved him, John had been on edge and he knew that she was as well, seeing as he hadn't said it back. Instead, the doorbell rang at an opportune moment and he'd run off in the blink of an eye. Since then, she'd been waiting for him to say the words that he wasn't sure he could say. It wasn't that John didn't love Katerina... he just didn't know how he felt. For too long, he had bounced from one girl to the next, never really feeling much for any of them. She'd changed all of that and it scared him to death. John, an ex marine, was afraid to admit just how he felt for this woman. He knew he would have to say it... or something eventually, but he was holding off on it. He was convinced that he didn't know how to love a woman in that way, though he knew deep down that that wasn't true at all. She meant everything to him, but did he love her? Did he want to love her? Did he want to love anyone? They were terrible questions to ask himself, really, but he wasn't sure of anything at that point.
These were the very thoughts in his mind as he climbed into the car and looked over at Kat while he started it up. He was tempted to say it, if only just to say it and to keep her from being upset over it, but he thought better of it and, instead, backed out of the space. "You alright?" he asked her, genuinely concerned, as always. As they waited behind a line of cars to exit the lot, he reached over and placed a hand over her protruding stomach. "He must have liked the concert, he's drumming in there," John joked, feeling a kick. "Kid has good taste in music..." The smile John gave her may have been his usual devilish smile, but there was a warmness to it that hadn't been there the night that they'd gotten drunk and conceived. ### WORDS FOR KATERINA MONTGOMERY | OUTFIT | BEST OF YOU LYRICS BY FOO FIGHTERS | TEMPLATE BY MERCY [newclass=.john]background-image: url(http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag68/wintervex/Characters/johncrash_zps8bde5358.jpg); width: 450px; height: 550px; transition: all 1s ease-in-out; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease-in-out;-webkit-backface-visibility: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=.john:hover]background-image: url(http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag68/wintervex/Characters/johncrashhover_zps9ecb684e.jpg); width: 450px; height: 550px;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostie]width: 380px; height: 180px; padding: 335px 35px 35px 35px; opacity: 0; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc; transition: all 1s ease-in-out; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease-in-out;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostie:hover]width: 380px; height: 180px; padding: 335px 35px 35px 35px; opacity: 1; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostietext]width: 370px; padding-right: 10px; height: 180px; opacity: 1; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc; overflow: auto;[/newclass]

[attr="class","kat"] [attr="class","kpostie"] [attr="class","kpostietext"]The whole thing had been rather exhilarating for her; she hadn’t really been to many concerts in her life. While she had been the tiniest bit apprehensive about it Katerina was certainly glad she had gone. The whole concert had been an amazing experience even if it did cause her hearing loss later down the road. She couldn’t be bothered with the loud noise when she was getting to spend time with John; everything was more fun with him around.
Once the cool air hit them walking out she was glad that she had thought to bring a jacket along. Kat could smell the rain in the air and feel it starting to spatter against her face and although she loved the scent she was not all too enthused to get soaked at the moment. Being pregnant, soaking wet, tired and cold just weren’t meant to be together.
Taking his hand as he helped her down from the curb she couldn’t help but smile tiredly up at him. Even though the night had been by far a successful outing, Katerina was ready to get home and fall asleep on their new comfortable sleep number mattress. She had to admit that the thing had kind of spoiled her, being able to change the stiffness and softness of her bed at the touch of a button…it was rather great especially since her back always her in different places.
Kat had loved being able to decorate their new apartment and make it their home, even though she was still mentally kicking herself for admitting out loud that she loved her boyfriend. She hadn’t expected to say it but in a moment of weakness or whatever it was she just sort of blurted it out. Ever since then there had been a since of tension whenever it got too quiet, and while she never expected him to say it back it did make her wonder if he ever would.
She climbed into the car at an angle, having your stomach sticking out in front of you was something of its own obstacle, but she had slowly gotten used to it. Sighing as she sat down in the seat she grabbed the seat belt, thankful that it was long enough to wrap around her belly. One thing was for sure, she was ready to have this baby. Coming out of her thoughts at the sound of John’s voice Katerina replied “Yes, I’m fine just tired.” Then she smiled as he rested his hand on her stomach. “I don’t know why you insist on the baby being a boy, I don’t want you to be disappointed when all of us women are right and it is a girl.” Kat teased him. It was something that she did a lot now especially since they were so close to the due date.

[attr="class","john"] [attr="class","jpostie"] [attr="class","jpostietext"]"Please," John said with a roll of his eyes. "Isn't it up to the sperm anyway? Therefore it's up to me what's in there." With a devilish smile, he turned his eyes back to the other cars, letting his hand linger on her belly before pulling it away when they started to get a move on. Switching on the radio to avoid the silence that had become the norm since her little slip, he pulled the car out of the lot. With the rain getting heavier, it was harder to see, even with the windshield wipers swiping back and forth. Still, John paid close attention to the road, as always.
The wind was starting to howl and fork of lightning streaked across the darkened sky as they sat, waiting for a red light to turn green. A chill went down his spine when he heard the song that came over the radio and he immediately reached over to change it. Even years later, the man found it hard to listen to the the song that had been playing on the radio when he and his father got into what proved to be a fatal accident, no matter how good of a song it was.
"Come on, asshole," John grumbled as the car closest to the light was taking forever to get a move on once it turned green. He had no doubt that the driver was probably too busy texting to pay attention. With a glance toward Kat, the man couldn't help but smile, almost proudly, whether she was paying attention to him or not. Just looking at her and the way she glowed, his heart thawed and seemed to swell. And yet he still hadn't said it. The words were caught in his throat and, as their lane started moving again, he pulled forward.
It all felt a little too familiar. Raindrops raced down the window, the wipers swiped back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, and John peered through the rain at the intersection ahead of them. With the hold up that had just occurred, John was greeted with a red light when they reached the front of the line. The whole time that they waited, time seemed to go incredibly slow and he found himself gripping the steering wheel tightly. Despite his terrible sense of deja vu, however, John pulled forward when their light turned green, anxious to get home. Something just didn't feel right.
It all happened so quickly, though it felt like a million years to John. The other car seemingly came out of nowhere, swerving and running straight through the stoplight. John's first instinct was to try to avoid the collision, but when he slammed on the breaks, the car only skidded across the slick, wet ground. The horrible, and familiar, sound of metal on metal and glass shattering sounded all around them as John threw an arm across Kat's chest as if he didn't quite trust her seatbelt to keep her in her seat. In that moment, all John knew was chaos as it closed in around him. He didn't know if he'd blacked out or just shut his eyes as the car rolled once, twice, three times.
By the time everything came to a stop, John opened his eyes reluctantly, head pounding. His forehead felt wet and sticky and he tasted blood on his lip and in his mouth. Spitting it out, he could hear the rain pounding and cars squealing to a halt. The voices and yells were muffled by the wind and rain, though he doubted he would have been able to understand them anyway with the way his head was aching. Blood was starting to drip from his head and, looking up, John saw it splashing onto the roof of the car. That didn't seem right. "Fuck..." he groaned, trying to undo his seatbelt. They were upside down.
"Kat," he groaned, looking over at her. He was seeing double for a moment, but when he was finally able to focus, pure panic washed over him. "KAT-" Pulling and straining at his seatbelt, he couldn't get out of it. The dog tags around his neck were hanging down and he could feel all of the blood rushing to his head. Red in the face, he did the only thing he could think to do and grabbed a piece of glass. Despite it cutting into his hand, he hacked at the belt until he fell from the seat.
Yelling out in pain, John had to force himself onto his hands and knees. For a moment, he thought he was going to be sick, but he pulled himself out of the broken window of the car and stumble over to the passenger's side. He stumbled to her side, pulling at the door until it finally snapped open. "KAT!" Holding onto her, John yanked and pulled at the belt, his bloody hand slipping on it. "NO, NO, NO, NO, NO..."
He didn't know what voices belonged to who and he sure as hell didn't recognize any of the faces, but he was pulled away from Kat by strangers. The dizziness was too much for him as he tried to resist though...
"DAD-" Lights flashed by and, the look of fatherly pride vanished from James's face as he whipped his head around to face forward. Slamming the brakes on did very little, the car still flying forward, brakes squealing followed by the sound of metal on metal, a hideous sound...
When John jolted awake, he didn't have even the slightest idea as to where he was. A light was shining above him, hurting his eyes, and when he moved his hand, there was a tugging sensation. For an instant, his heart nearly stopped in panic. The trench, the explosion... "If I'm going to die, it sure as hell isn't going to be in a trench of dirt, with my tail between my legs." Sitting upright and gasping for air, he looked around him, almost blindly. STAFF SERGEANT-"
Something wasn't right though. He was in the hospital, but something was off. His platoon... "I'm gonna die! I don't wanna die. I wanna go home to my mom..." Taking hold of his head, John tried to remember what happened to his men. His back against a tree, he could hear jets flying overhead. "TAKE COVER!" Lights flashing, sirens blaring, and unfamiliar faces... The explosion had been almost a year prior. Katerina.
When everything finally clicked, John yanks the wires right off of himself, IV and everything. The beeping that followed was loud and urgent as he went straight through the door, only to be greeted by nurses trying to push him back into his room and the safety of the bed. Still in his bloody clothes, John refused to budge. "Where is she?!" he demanded, on the verge of either freaking out or melting down. ### WORDS FOR KATERINA MONTGOMERY | OUTFIT | BEST OF YOU LYRICS BY FOO FIGHTERS | TEMPLATE BY MERCY [newclass=.john]background-image: url(http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag68/wintervex/Characters/johncrash_zps8bde5358.jpg); width: 450px; height: 550px; transition: all 1s ease-in-out; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease-in-out;-webkit-backface-visibility: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=.john:hover]background-image: url(http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag68/wintervex/Characters/johncrashhover_zps9ecb684e.jpg); width: 450px; height: 550px;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostie]width: 380px; height: 180px; padding: 335px 35px 35px 35px; opacity: 0; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc; transition: all 1s ease-in-out; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease-in-out;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostie:hover]width: 380px; height: 180px; padding: 335px 35px 35px 35px; opacity: 1; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostietext]width: 370px; padding-right: 10px; height: 180px; opacity: 1; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc; overflow: auto;[/newclass]

[attr="class","kat"] [attr="class","kpostie"] [attr="class","kpostietext"]Katerina snorted “Yeah you wish it were that easy.” She said with a grin before letting the conversation fall into silence. This had started to happen all too often lately and once again she mentally kicked herself for her big mouth. Kat couldn’t help but glance at him, wondering what he was thinking about, or if he even was thinking about anything seeing that the road was getting harder and harder to see as the rain continuously beat down upon their car.
Her phone beeped with the announcement of a text message and she glanced down to see her mother’s name. Smiling she opened the message. It was just a short text the normal goodnight her mother always sends with several XO’s and an “I love you”. It was while her head was down reading that it happened. A car came from the right, running straight into her door and though she screamed it was lost in the sound of metal screeching and the car flipping.
During the second flip Katerina’s head smashed into the passenger window, and while she began to slip into an unconscious state she heard it shatter. The next thing she could hear were voices that sounded miles away and John yelling her name but her eyes just wouldn’t work they wouldn’t open even though she knew she needed too. She couldn’t move and she felt for sure that she was almost dead.
While paramedics where pulling John away they used the jaws of life to cut her out. She woke up briefly to the sound of something like a chainsaw and could see a blurry outline of people as they carefully moved her onto a stretcher, her entire body felt numb like it was no longer there. Something hot was running into her eyes but she was just too numb to care at that moment, then she slipped away again.
Katerina could hear the sirens but in her mind they were far away and she was at home in their apartment sleeping. Until a bump brought pain and she found herself screaming it felt like her entire body was broken. She didn’t recognize the voice that told her “Give her another shot of morphine.” Kat was confused; she had just been in her bed how did she end up here. Then she felt a sharp sting and everything faded away again.
The next time she awoke there were bright lights above her, almost blindingly white and she could hear people all around her talking but she couldn’t exactly understand their words. “John.” She whispered “Where’s John” she asked but her words were too quiet for anyone to hear her.

[attr="class","john"] [attr="class","jpostie"] [attr="class","jpostietext"]"Sir, you need to calm down-" John pushed past the nurses, looking for a familiar face. He needed to see her face, he needed to tell her. Jesus christ, why hadn't he just told her before? "Mr. Rhodes?" One of the nurses approached him, looking ready to call security if she had to. "We're doing everything we can for your wi-"
"She's my girlfriend. Where is she? Why can't I see her? What about the baby?" Something in his expression caused the nurse's eyes to soften. "We don't know about the baby just yet. She's being prepped for an emergency c-section." John's entire body went cold and his face was surely whiter than a sheet of ice. "If you won't stay in a bed, I can take you somewhere that you can wait."
Time seemed to be going by so slowly for John as he sat and waited in the hall outside of the operating room. His body ached, but he wasn't concerned for himself. There was a cut above his eye that had been glued and bandaged, along with many other various gashes. A few of his ribs were bruised and the doctor said something about a concussion, but other than that John wasn't too badly injured. Sitting there with his head in his hands, John only looked up at the sound of someone approaching.
Two police officers were heading down the hall with an obviously drunk man. The guy stank of booze and was sporting a few bandages and a pair of handcuffs. John had only glimpsed him for a moment before the collision, but he still knew who the hell it was and he was going to kill him. "YOU FUCKING BASTARD." he said, getting to his feet. He got in one good punch that knocked the guy off of his feet, but before he could hit the guy again, the cops were pulling him off and holding him back. He was seeing nothing but red. "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU'VE DONE?! MY BABY AND MY GIRLFRIEND MIGHT DIE BECAUSE OF YOU!"
They were having a hell of a time holding him back when two more pairs of arms took hold of him and pulled him away. John fought fiercely though until he heard a familiar voice. "He's not worth it, John," Andy said and, for a moment, he was caught off guard. The two officers dragged the drunken bastard away while they had the chance.
Andrew and Eric forced their brother, who was trembling with anger, to sit back down. He didn't know why Andrew was there, not after what happened, but he didn't question it. "I want to kill him. Kat and the baby-" Andy placed a comforting hand on John's back. "I know," he said when John couldn't finish his sentence. "Mom and Lizzie are on their way," Eric said, looking at his phone. "They called Kat's parents and they'll be here in a little while." John looked up at his brothers, completely at a loss for words.
His eyes started to sting with moisture as he got up and started to pace. "Jesus christ, this is all my fault," John said, feeling weak and ridiculous for being on the verge of tears. Unable to take it anymore, and ribs aching, he leaned against the wall and sank to the floor. His brothers joined him on either side. "It's not your fault..." Andy said. John lifted his head from his arms and looked to his oldest brother. He wasn't just talking about Kat and the baby. Eric's phone started to ring and he got up to answer it, a little ways down the hall.
"I love her and I didn't tell her." John admitted to Andy, his heart aching so badly that he thought it would kill him. "I don't know what I'm going to do if something happens to her or the baby, I need them." It was true too. John had never needed anyone or anything as much as he needed Kat and the baby. Andy just wrapped his arms around him, making John feel like he was a kid again. "I can't live without them..." ### WORDS FOR KATERINA MONTGOMERY | OUTFIT | BEST OF YOU LYRICS BY FOO FIGHTERS | TEMPLATE BY MERCY [newclass=.john]background-image: url(http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag68/wintervex/Characters/johncrash_zps8bde5358.jpg); width: 450px; height: 550px; transition: all 1s ease-in-out; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease-in-out;-webkit-backface-visibility: hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=.john:hover]background-image: url(http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag68/wintervex/Characters/johncrashhover_zps9ecb684e.jpg); width: 450px; height: 550px;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostie]width: 380px; height: 180px; padding: 335px 35px 35px 35px; opacity: 0; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc; transition: all 1s ease-in-out; -webkit-transition: all 1s ease-in-out;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostie:hover]width: 380px; height: 180px; padding: 335px 35px 35px 35px; opacity: 1; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc;[/newclass] [newclass=.jpostietext]width: 370px; padding-right: 10px; height: 180px; opacity: 1; text-align: justify; color: #cccccc; overflow: auto;[/newclass]

[attr="class","kat"] [attr="class","kpostie"] [attr="class","kpostietext"]Katerina was having trouble staying awake but by now the nurses swarming around her were doing their best to keep her alert, asking her mundane questions about what her name was and what day it is and random stuff that Kat just didn’t see was necessary. She asked more than once “Where’s my boyfriend, where is John” but the nurses didn’t seem to either know the answer or wouldn’t tell her.
Kat was starting to fade back again when she caught a nurse or doctor or whatever they were, her groggy mind didn’t care, saying “We need to get the baby out; she may have suffered internal damage that might have affected it.” When her eyes snapped there was a curtain like thing obstructing her view of her lower body and she swore she couldn’t feel that part again either. Her head still hurt like a bitch, pounding away in like four different places and it hurt to keep her eyes open, the light making her head hurt even more.
She closed her eyes for a moment to try to make the pain go away and the next minute she was out again. It was during this time that she missed all of the commotion outside, a man yelling and screaming and then another ten minutes later the sound of a baby making its first cries in this world. That should have woken her up but Katerina was pretty much unconscious to the world and her vitals were beginning to drop.
A nurse cleaned the baby, a little girl, and walked out into the hallway while chaos reigned in the operating room as they tried to stabilize Katerina. She walked over to John, a grim expression on her face. “Mr. Rhodes?” She said waiting a moment before beginning to hand him his newborn daughter. “We were able to get your daughter out without complications, but it was after that that your girlfriend started declining. They are trying to stabilize her at this moment but there might have been some internal bleeding that wasn’t detected when they first checked.” After another brief pause she added “I’ll give you some time with your daughter and someone else should be out to give you an update on your girlfriend.”
